Honey Lawless is best known as the burlesque darling of her hometown of Oakland. The Queen of the C’s brings her own brand of crass comedy made complete by her killer C’s. Channeling her idols and inspirations from the golden age of Burlesque, Honey was instrumental in bringing back the tease to Oakland’s vibrant performance community. Honey Lawless never ceases to surprise her audience with her sense of satire and sass while charming her audience with her naughty grace.
Honey gained notoriety for bringing memorable characters to the stage such as Cookie Monster, the Easter Bunny and even Pinocchio with no treasured childhood memory left unscathed. A regular performer for Hubba Hubba Revue, she has transformed their monthly show with her over-the-top opening production numbers featuring an all star cast accompanied by live music and dance.
Ms. Lawless was bit by the dancing bug at the tender age of 4. Classically trained in ballet, Ms. Lawless found herself being enticed by other forms of dance including jazz, tap and modern. Ms. Lawless is a known master of disguises with expertise using a bull-whip and two-bladed sai and the ability to charm with dance and comedy.
The Oakland Tribune describes her as “something of a cabaret version of Marvel Comics character “Elektra” with a striptease described as “elaborate, graceful and enticing.”
Ms. Lawless was a finalist in 2009 for Best Performer by the East Bay Express Best of the East Bay, stating that “her burlesque performances are like no other! Perfect and utter madness.” And in 2010, Ms. Lawless was nominated for the Oakland Soul Award for co-founding and producing the only community burlesque show in the country, First Friday Follies.
